Ash tree removals will start in the Copeland Park community within the coming months
EAB is present in your community and the ash trees on City-property on your street or adjacent to your home have declined to an extent where they need to be removed. Any tree limbs and brush left on your property will be chipped within 2-3 business days of the work being performed.
Work will generally take place between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm when weather permits.
You may assist this work by removing decorative lights or bird feeders prior to tree removal.
Only trees on City property will be removed as part of this project.
The City will return to remove the stump. lf a tree has not already been planted, Forestry Services will be evaluating your street for tree replacement.
Emerald ash borer (EAB) is a serious invasive insect that kills all species of ash trees
EAB was found in Ottawa in 2008. To combat this insect, the City of Ottawa has developed a strategy to protect
Ottawa’s forest cover. This strategy includes controlling wood movement and disposal, tree removal, selective
tree injections, proactive tree planting, and public outreach.
DON’T MOVE WOOD!
Emerald ash borer does not spread quickly on its own! lt is most commonly spread through moving infested
wood- such as firewood. As the City begins to plant trees and manage the impact of EAB, we are asking for the
public’s cooperation. lf it is necessary to move wood from your property, please consult federal government
regulations before moving any material from ash trees.
